What time do I drop off and pick up my child?

Please arrive at camp between 5:15 and 5:30 p.m. on the first day and between 10:00 and 10:15 a.m. on the last day of camp. Click on this link for a map, or call the camp office at (920) 398-2671 to get directions by mail, e-mail or fax.  Supervised bus transportation is also available to and from the Chicago area for all of our youth camps.

What if my child gets sick or hurt?

All members on the Summer Ministry Team (summer staff) are certified in CPR and First Aid through the Red Cross.  We also have a Red Cross certified First Responder on staff as our camp nurse. This camp nurse will administer over-the-counter and prescription medications as indicated on the Health History Form (and in accordance with the standing orders established for Camp Grow by the Family Healthcare Clinic of Ripon, WI), and transport guests by appropriate means to a medical facility for standard and/or urgent medical care.

What is the staff-to-camper ratio? 

There is one trained counselor for every cabin group of 5-8 summer campers. In addition, there are 10-12 other trained camp staff members who ensure that campers are safe throughout the day. 

What are the qualifications of the summer ministry team members (camp staff)? 

Many are Christian college students, some are local adults, parents or church leaders or active retired people who wish to invest their summer in the campers at Camp Grow. Each full time ministry team member goes through a thorough application process, including reference checks and a criminal background check, then attends a week of pre-season training in June. This training includes Red Cross CPR and first aid certification as well as a variety of workshops covering issues such as nurturing spiritual growth, managing conflict and using the natural world around us to point toward the majesty of the Creator. In addition, the lifeguards are certified through the Red Cross lakefront lifeguard training course.

Do I need to be a member of a church from a particular denomination? 

No. We provide sound Biblical teaching and healthy Christian fellowship for all children who attend Camp Grow programs. 

What are meal times like? 

Our food service staff works hard to serve a variety of healthy foods that campers will eat. Meals are served buffet style in the camp dining hall. At least one camp staff person sits at each table with campers. Special dietary needs (food allergies, etc.) will be accommodated if they are noted on the camper’s health history form.

What if my camper gets homesick?  

At times campers feel homesick at the beginning of the week. Activities are carefully planned so that campers immediately get involved and make new friends, helping the homesickness to disappear quickly. A hug or some special attention from our staff has proven to be the most effective remedy for homesickness. If your child calls home and is homesick, encourage him or her to talk about what he/she has enjoyed at camp so far.  It is good to encourage him/her to seek out a friend or camp staff person to confide in. Campers who are appropriately encouraged to “hang in there” are often the campers who have a successful camp experience.  A week at summer camp can be a big confidence builder for a young person. 

How do I contact my child while he/she is at camp? 

  • Write a letter or send an e-mail to:  campers@campgrow.org with Camper Mail and your camper’s name in the subject line

  • Phone calls from home are generally discouraged except in the case of an emergency.  The more a child is immersed in his or her Christian summer camp experience, the more meaningful it becomes.  If there is an emergency and you need to contact your child call the office at 920-398-2671.  If there is no answer please call (708) 910-8040.  Leave your name, phone number, and a message.  We will return your call as soon as possible.

May I apply to volunteer while my child is at camp? 

Yes.  Parents who complete the application process and are invited to volunteer can take 50% off their child’s registration fee.  Areas to volunteer include food service, arts & crafts, maintenance and camp program areas.  Find more information on how to apply as a volunteer on our volunteer page.

Why are campers discouraged from bringing electronic devices like iPods and other portable devices? 

One of the benefits of a summer camp experience is meeting new people and making new friends. One of the objectives for our planned activities is to provide a comfortable setting for campers to interact with each other.  Listening to an iPod or playing with a handheld video game causes campers to isolate themselves and miss out on getting to know other campers. In addition, expensive electronic items could get lost or damaged at camp. 

What can be found at the Trading Post? 

The Trading Post (camp store) has stamps and envelopes, postcards, candy, ice cream, soda, snacks, Camp Grow apparel and other Camp Grow items. Campers are limited as to the amount of money they can spend on snack items each day.  Shirts and sweatshirts range from $14 to $35.  When campers arrive, the Trading Post manager will record how much store money is brought by each camper and keep it in the office safe.  As campers buy items at the store, the purchases are subtracted from their account.  Any remaining money is returned to the camper in a sealed envelope on the last day of camp. 

Is financial assistance available? 

Yes.  Scholarships are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and are awarded based on need.  Any summer camper may apply for financial assistance. Applications must be submitted online or postmarked by May 1.  No scholarships will be granted after May 1.  In order to be considered for a scholarship, a $25 deposit must accompany your application.  We also encourage you to check with your local church for scholarship availability.  Many churches encourage their members to participate in summer camp and are willing to help.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you cancel 2 weeks before the program start date you will be issued a full refund.

If you cancel 2 weeks to 3 days before the program start date, 50% of the deposit will be issued upon request in the form of a gift certificate which may be used toward any Camp Grow Program.  Gift Certificates must be used within 12 months of cancellation date and are non-refundable or transferable.

If you cancel within 3 days of the program start date no refund will be issued. 

Does Camp Grow have Family Camps?

Yes.  This year's Family Camp runs from June 29-July 5.  Families can also stay in one of four full-hookup RV sites or one of three campsites with electricity/water hookups and receive 25% off the regular family program rate. Families of people in full-time vocational ministry or Seminary receive a 50% discount. Grandparents and singles are always welcome.

Can my family rent a cabin? 

Cabins with kitchenettes and bathrooms may be rented when a program is not in session. Brim Grow Memorial Lodge and Edgewood Lodge are year-round retreat centers available to guest groups of up to 32 and 36 (not available during summer camp weeks).
